Candi Mendut located 3 km to the east of the temple of Borobudur, a Buddhist temple built in 824 AD by King Sense of Sailendra dynasty. In the Mendut there are 3 (three) big statue.
Cakyamuni who was sitting cross-legged with the position of the hand turning the wheel of dharma.
Awalokiteswara as Bodhi Satwa help humanity
Awalokiteswara an Amitabha statue that is above the crown, Vajrapani. She is holding a red lotus flower is placed in the palm of the hand.
Maitreya as the future savior of the human
There is a story for children on the walls. The temple is often used to celebrate the Vesak ceremony every May on the night of the full moon and visited by pilgrims from Indonesia and abroad.
The temple is older than Borobudur temple. Its architecture is rectangular and has entrances on top of the ladder. The roof is also square and terraced, there stupa on it.
