History of Pura Batur

Before the catastrophic eruption of Mount Batur in 1917, Pura Batur originally located at the foot of the mountain near the southwestern edge of Lake Batur, which destroyed 65,000 houses, 2,500 temples and more than thousands of lives. But the magic to stop at the foot of Temple. People see all this as a good sign and continued to stay there forever. In 1926 a new eruption covered the entire temple except "pelinggih" the highest, temapt worship to God in the manifestation of Goddess Danu, the Goddess of the lake water. Then the villagers insisted on placing it in a higher place and start tusag them to rebuild the temple. They brought pelinggih intact and rebuilt Batur Temple.

Some ancient manuscripts, scriptures tell the origin of Bali Pura Batur, which is part of the "sad heaven", six groups of temples in Bali that are recorded in palm Widhi Literature, palmyra King Purana and Babad Pasek Kayu Selem. Pura Batur also expressed as a temple "Kaya Jagat" which disungsung by the general public.

History of Pura Batur is devoted to Goddess of fertility, Dewi Danu. He is the Goddess of the lake water. Mineral-rich water flowing from Lake Batur, flowing from one patch of rice paddy fields to another, gradually down to earth. In Business ejection Bali, one of the sacred literature which was placed in the temple, there is an ancient legend that describes the composition of the throne of Goddess Danu.

The legend is told as follows:

One night early in the fifth month Margasari Pasupati god (Shiva) to move the summit of Mount Mahameru in India and divide it into two parts. He took one part with his left hand and the other with his right hand. The two hemispheres are brought into the throne. Hemisphere who brought with her right hand into Mount Agung the throne to his son, the god Putranjaya (Mahadeva Shiva) and brought with her left hand into Mount Batur throne of the Goddess Danu, the Goddess of Water Lake. This legend makes the biggest mountain in Bali and two symbolic elements "of men and women" (Purasa and Pradeep) or two manifestations of the source of origin; God (Ida Sang Hyang Wishi Wasa).
